Useful answers require visible sources and honest limits.
ShiftPay Tools explains calculation methods in plain language and gives workers a way to test their own numbers. We do not present estimates as legal findings or employer records.
How we choose topics
We focus on questions that create practical problems for hourly and rotating-shift workers, including missing premiums, confusing overtime, long shifts, paycheck differences, PTO planning and changing work calendars.
Our source order
- Official federal, state or local government material
- Statutes, regulations and agency fact sheets when relevant
- Employer or collective bargaining documents for examples that clearly identify their limited scope
- Established professional or industry material for context
Federal wage discussions commonly link to the U.S. Department of Labor. State, local, occupation-specific and contractual rules may be different or more protective.
How calculations are reviewed
Each tool identifies its inputs and formula. Worked examples are checked by reproducing the arithmetic from the stated numbers. Pages link to How Our Calculations Work so assumptions remain visible.
What we avoid
- Invented legal conclusions
- Claims that one employer’s policy applies everywhere
- Articles produced only to repeat a search phrase
- Hidden sponsorships or paid recommendations
- Requests for pay stubs or sensitive employment information
Corrections and updates
When a formula, source or factual statement needs correction, we update the affected page and its review date. Readers can use the Contact page to report a specific issue without submitting private payroll information.
Independence and advertising
Advertising may help support the site. Advertisers do not control calculator results, editorial conclusions or which sources are cited. Advertisements are labeled and kept separate from the tools.
